Imagine spending 5 years to perfect your role.....Just for it to be deleted while knowing your role does not translate to another your expected to give all you got till the end of season (:
From a caster perspective one thing I think this change takes away is the iconic tank duo chemistry and brotherhood that's been so fun to build across every level of Overwatch.
I've loved talking about LullSiSh/Ellivote, Gator/Hawk, Reiner/Coluge and so many others.
unbelievably disrespectful to make this decision and completely remove a role that people gave up years of their lives to achieve - not all your favorite tank players will disappear but lots will. and not once were pro players made aware of this or asked on their philosophies.
I've actually toyed with the idea of Overwatch as a 5v5 game the past few months and theoretically there are a lot of pros in favor.
While the greatest con is "tradition" (a poor argument in search for improvement), the conversation needs an article, not a tweet. Might write it. https://t.co/akjVIfYZGI
My take is that OT players will be fine in OW2. There'll still be a need to play those heroes and the tank role itself is going to completely change. With all of the new stuff for tanks coming into OW2, I think it's crazy to say that there won't be a need for the OT heroes.
I think 5v5 overall is a healthy change going forward. In terms of tanks, MT is a necessity but I think the skill ceiling of a great OT player is one of, if not the highest in the game. Lots of nuance at the highest level. Curious to see how it all develops in the future
As for whether or not 5v5 is good for the game, I won't pretend to know the answer. But coordinating with a tank, building synergy and dominating is probably one of the most fun things I've done in a game
This is a good thing. Most team esports are 5v5, this is going to be a good benefit for logistics. Beyond that, helping queue times and improving viewability of the game (as an esport) is very important and will be improved dramatically. Change is uncomfortable but this is needed https://t.co/qcrzLSP3bd
I see the pros in a 5v5 game, and it could be good. I had a hard time watching competitive Overwatch early on, and growing the audience is important. I just worry about the flow of the game in a permanent 1-tank system. We shall see.
Okay, if you genuinely think I want to see a minimum of 20 pro lose their jobs, then you’re a fucking idiot like this person.
Now, personally I don’t mind the drop from 6 to 5. Firstly as I said, for the viewing experience it will make it easier for new fans to understand 1/ https://t.co/ZP9tandLwf
Scared aswell for esport tank's scene. Not sure if we needed that for now, instead of adding new maps heroes for overwatch 1 it would have been 🔥. They made a lot of good change and i think a sustainability would have been better for Overwatch but anyway let's see what happens..
Gangnamjin: FIVE?!? 5v5?!? Kuki: HUH? Swing: Yeah, it's going to be 1 tank 2 DPS 2 heals OGE: Beomjun-hyung, let's write up our retirement posts Gargoyle: What are you talking about!!! 😳#BitsOfMayhem
The funniest thing is looking at offtanks crying on twitter about losing their jobs when most of the the pure projectile dps lost their jobs a long time ago.
